Enkerende School

Enkerende School

The lodge has initiated and funded a community school at Enkerende as it was felt there was a need for a local primary school. Currently the more than 70 children are educated in a church, where they take turns to be taught. In the morning the little children attend lessons and in the afternoon the older children receive theirs. We are funding and are constructing a school which will have enough classrooms to accommodate all the children from the Masai Manyattas within the conservancy to improve levels of education.

The challenge after completing the school will be to sustain funding in order to maintain the infrastructure, pay salaries for the teachers, buy books and other essential items thereby continuing the quality of education offered.

If you would like to help

For guests staying with us at Ngerende Island Lodge, a donation in terms of reading materials, pencils and any items which will assist in the provision of teaching tools would be greatly appreciated. It is however expensive to post the items from abroad as Kenya Revenue Authority imposes various duties and if sent as donations approval may take upto 6 months before clearing the items.

We encourage guests to buy school equipment from Nairobi and we will collect and deliver them to the school through our regular supply vehicles. Cash donations can be made at the lodge or sent to our bank account marked Ngerende Community Project.
